Day 6 (Wednesday) Haines to Beaver Creek, Yukon
We drove over 300 miles from Haines to the town of Beaver Creek in the Yukon. The road was good until we got closer to Beaver Creek. The last 100 miles was gravel surfaced and very bumpy. Even though guideposts tell you the trip should take 7 hours, the entire trip with numerous stops took us around 10 hours. We saw a coyote, swans, arctic ground squirrels and black and brown bears. One of the bears gave us a show by standing up on his hind feet and scratching his back on a tree. We drove by the Klaune Lake, the largest lake entirely in the Yukon border.
The electricity powered by generators went out during our dinner for a short while. We were told that is common. After dinner we stayed overnight in rustic cabins at Buckshot Bettys. The cabins were very small, but the beds were very comfy.
